Adjunct and Graduate Assistant Positions

The Athletic Department at Missouri Valley College invites applications for a graduate assistant working with the MVC dance team.  The GA will assist in the daily functions of running a successful varsity dance team program. This includes coaching, recruiting, travel arrangements, individual skill development, office administration work, and other responsibilities.

Alongside the Head Coach the GA will be expected to:

Attend high school football and basketball games, attend both regional and state competitions as a vendor and recruiter for both dance and twirl, attend studio dance competitions, combines, high school clinics put on by MVC and attend and facilitate master classes and workshops when the opportunity arises. In addition, the GA will conduct tours and meet with recruits when they are on campus.

The GA will assist with day-to-day operations including practice, strength and conditioning, choreography, run study tables, collecting and will manage team information, assist with community service, manage dance social media, and building relationships with a variety of constituencies.

There will be a variety of fundraising endeavors for the GA to work on, including Summer Dance Team Kids Camp, Kids Clinic fall/spring, Sponsorship/Fan Club, high school clinics, mouse races, bingo, athletic auction, high school showcase, and other initiatives.

Must be able to work on choreography days, practice days, and travel days, including driving to and from team competitions up to 10 times per semester. Regarding game day, the GA will attend all home games that include dance team performances or appearances, including special events that involve the dance team.

The successful candidate will have completed a bachelor’s degree before the start of the assistantship, be accepted into the MVC graduate program, have a minimum of a 2.5 undergraduate GPA, or 3.0 if any graduate work has been completed prior to being hired.

Must have playing or coaching experience in dance, must be internet savvy and able to conduct targeted searches, must have the ability to navigate recruiting databases, and the ability to responsibly manage social media accounts.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

The Academic Services Graduate Assistant will play a critical role in managing the Testing Center, supervising Academic Coaches, and ensuring effective communication with Disability Services. This position involves overseeing test proctoring, conducting data analysis, and generating reports to support the Academic Support Services.

Responsibilities: 

1. Testing Center Management:
   • Oversee the daily operations of the Testing Center, ensuring a smooth and efficient testing environment.
   • Coordinate and schedule test proctoring, including managing test materials and ensuring adherence to testing protocols.
   • Address and resolve any issues that arise during testing sessions.
2. Test Proctoring:
   • Administer and proctor exams for students, ensuring that testing procedures are followed and providing assistance as needed.

   • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to testing, academic coaching, and other departmental functions.
   • Create and present detailed reports on testing outcomes, student performance, and program effectiveness.
   • Use data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and make recommendations for enhancing academic services.
6. Administrative Support:
   • Assist in the development and maintenance of documentation and procedures related to testing and academic coaching.

Qualifications

Job Summary

The School of Science & Agriculture at Missouri Valley College invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor of Agriculture to qualified individuals. Collegiality, professionalism, and a strong commitment to teaching excellence and the college mission are required.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

• Teach assigned course(s) as specified in the course schedule and contract.

• Guide students to succeed through personal instruction* and intellectual inquiry.*

• Guide students to become independent learners.

• Prepare and distribute to students a complete and comprehensive syllabus as per institutional guidelines for every course taught.

• Administer either an exam or other evaluative activity during the official final exam schedule for every course taught.

• Determine final grades as per the method prescribed in the syllabus.

• Provide students with written notice of substantial change(s) to the syllabus.

• Require use of the course text(s) to an extent that warrants purchase.

• Undertake and monitor initiatives to improve student learning.

• Respond to student work, communications, and requests in a timely manner.

• Submit attendance reports and retention alerts as required or requested.

• Support safe, orderly, and ethical work and classroom environments.

• Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate work with colleagues in a timely manner.

• Complete assigned or accepted responsibilities, including routine administrative tasks, with accuracy and attention to detail by established deadlines.
• Support the planning, preparation, and submission of assessment and accreditation reports.
• Comply with all institutional policies, requirements, and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as requested by the dean.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in an Agriculture-related subject (e.g., Agronomy, Soil Science, Forestry, Agricultural Education, etc.) from an accredited institution required.

• Terminal degree in Agriculture or a related field from an accredited institution preferred.

• Previous teaching experience required; online teaching experience in a college or university setting preferred.

• Ability to stand or sit for extended time periods.

• Working knowledge of Brightspace or an equivalent learning management system required.

• Ability to successfully complete the Missouri Valley College Online Instructor Orientation Course.

Additional Information

As a pre-condition of employment, the applicant must be authorized to work in the United States. Employment at MVC is contingent upon satisfactory completion of background check. Compensation varies by course based on student enrollment and program type.

Position Summary:
The Graduate Assistant (GA) is responsible for providing student-centered support for the various Student Affairs departments and services. This position provides professional apprenticeship for the GA while supporting essential programs and services for the College community.  Duties will vary based on specific assignments. Assignments may be changed at any time during employment based on the needs of the division. The GA must be accepted into an accredited graduate program for the duration of their contract. Priority will be given to students enrolled in one of the two Missouri Valley College master’s programs. 

Responsibilities:

• Serve as building supervisor for the Malcolm Center for Student Life; open and close the building, setup meeting spaces, provide basic housekeeping services.  
• Aid guests in reserving Student Center space and equipment.
• Assist in the development and implementation of campus activity programming.
• Assist in the development and implementation of intramural sports programming. 
• Supervise numerous Student Center assistants (work-study).  
• Staff Office of Student Affairs; provide basic administrative support for staff and customer service for guests.
• Assist in the operation of the Viking Shuttle. 
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

• Earned bachelor’s degree in any discipline. (In some cases candidates who are in their final year of an undergraduate degree my apply).
• Effective interpersonal skills; ability to interact productively with students, faculty staff, and other constituents.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and wiliness to work irregular hours.
• Experience working with diverse student populations, including international students.
• Basic computer literacy; basic competency in software and database systems (i.e. Microsoft Office, Adobe).
• Experience in various forms of advertising, including social media.

Compensation:
Tuition scholarship, campus housing, and meal plan (when school is in session).
