Missouri Valley College seeks an energetic senior leader to serve as its next director of athletics.

The director of athletics provides administrative direction and oversight for intercollegiate athletics staff, programs, facilities, and activities. The AD is responsible for overseeing the Missouri Valley College athletic program including planning, implementing, and directing all administrative activities, budgeting, hiring and development of all coaches and athletics staff; fundraising; strategic planning; and monitoring the individual intercollegiate athletic programs.

The AD is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, NAIA, Heart of America Conference and college regulations, administering departmental funds and accounts in a fiscally responsible manner and sustaining and modeling a culture of sportsmanship, professionalism, and respect at all levels.  The director also collaborates with student administrative offices and admissions on the recruitment and retention/persistence of student athletes. In addition, the AD ensures quality game experiences for student athletes, families, and guests. The AD works with the Advancement staff to conduct several important fundraising and community events each year.

The athletic director reports directly to the president. The AD maintains oversight of athletics budgets, operational accounts and booster accounts. Moderate travel is required for conference, regional and national meetings, team travel and fundraising visits.

Responsibilities

• Must be results-oriented and demonstrate a commitment to the college and department missions.
• Create a long-term strategy for athletic programs at MVC with corresponding initiatives and tactics; Coordinate, update and implement strategic planning process for athletics.

• Develop and manage Athletics Department budget and then monitor its implementation.
• Develop athletics department and sport Key Performance Indicators and report on them regularly
• Maintain and report regularly on eligibility, participation, compliance and develop training programs in these areas for new coaches and those needing professional development
• Approve schedules and contracts for all contests.
• Approve all purchase orders, check requests, expense reports, and travel arrangements.
• Oversee the department’s office procedures and work.
• Hire mentor, guide and evaluate coaching and athletics staff.
• Oversee the Head Athletic Trainer and athletic administrative staff, including game management, marketing, attendance promotion, and half-time games/entertainment.
• Oversee the Sports Information Director’s role and duties as assigned.
• Coordinate or delegate the search process for open positions in the athletics department.
• Comply with all rules and regulations set forth by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, Heart of America Athletic Conference and Missouri Valley College
• Manage the student-athlete handbook and update it regularly, while coordinating appropriate changes to student handbook through the VP of Student Affairs;
• Evaluate, approve, and submit, in cooperation with the Faculty Athletic Representative, eligibility forms of all student athletes to the eligibility chair.
• Correspond with the NAIA on any special eligibility cases, such as hardships and other pertinent concerns.
• Support the NAIA’s Champions of Character initiative and implement it on campus
• Support the NAIA’s life skills and anti-drug education program.
• Represent the institution within the Heart and NAIA governance structure.
• Serve as the athletics department’s main liaison with various constituents.
• Lead the fundraising outreach for the athletic department in collaboration with the Advancement Office.
• Use the gameday experience to build community connections.
• Participate in the college’s annual fund endeavors and capital campaign projects
• Oversee the planning and implementation of the annual athletics department fundraising events
• Secure sponsorship for various athletics events, programs and facilities.
• Coordinate with the Alumni Office to develop alumni athletics events.

Requirements

• Master’s degree required; preferably in athletics management or related field
• Valid driver’s license, and current CPR certification
• Experience developing and implementing multi-faceted assessment plan in athletics or related area. Familiarity and experience with NAIA athletics
• Coaching experience, and multiple years of senior leadership in an athletic department, with experience managing all facets of an athletic department budget

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors by patrolling the campus, reporting crime and enforcing college policies.

Responsibilities:

• Secures premises by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment and inspecting buildings and access points
• Upholds Missouri Valley College’s standards and reputation by complying with legal requirements of the Clery Act

• Enforces campus parking regulations

Qualifications:

Missouri Valley has an opening for the Director of Public Safety, who is responsible for maintaining public safety on campus, progressive community policing, as well as directing the enforcement of all federal, state, and local laws. The director oversees a full-time police officer and several part time officers.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Developing and maintaining the Missouri Valley College Police Department mission and the policies and procedures in support of the college mission.
• Supervising departmental operations and directing departmental planning necessary to provide comprehensive law enforcement and public safety services.
• Recruiting a diverse police department, overseeing staff development and training, as well as staffing, hiring, disciplinary action, evaluation, and promotion.
• Managing and appropriately allocating the police department budget; analyzes, monitors and evaluates staffing utilization against budgeted staffing base.
• Promoting an interactive, positive relationship between the College Police Department and other departments or offices of the College, students, parents, faculty and staff with the goal of building trust and strong working relationships between the department and the community.
• Planning and developing strategies in conjunction with the Chief of Police in Marshall for the preparation and response to college emergency management.
• Serving as a member of the College Crisis management team.
• Developing and reviewing department policy ensuring compliance with state and national accreditation standards and best practices.
• Analyzing crime trends and incident reports; developing program utilizations of personnel to offset the trends; maintaining department crime statistics, including the compiling and filing of the annual security and fire safety report to the Department of Education (Clery Act) and monthly summary reports for the Vice President of Student Affairs.
• Addressing security concerns of College buildings and property, including security technology and routine security inspections on main and satellite campuses.
• Collaborating with other College leaders to develop policies and procedures for and to carryout effective, unified responses to emergencies, planned and unplanned events and community needs; issues crime and emergency alerts as appropriate; acts as responsible authority for the department in emergency response situations; and participates in supporting college-wide emergency response efforts.
• Developing campus outreach, education, and prevention programs related to public safety. Advises campus administrators of legal and liability issues related to campus safety.

Requirements:

On call responsibility required; valid license to operate a motor vehicle; must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation, eligible to obtain and maintain a commission to carry a firearm. Must possess academic credentials and experience suitable to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Must also possess at least five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in campus safety and protection or other law enforcement with at least three years of experience in a related supervisory position. Experience and knowledge of law enforcement policies and procedures, crime prevention, investigations, training for law enforcement personnel, and life safety programming required.

And must also demonstrate ability to address community concerns in a compassionate, forthright manner and to be visible on campus and to participate in the life of the campus and possess an understanding of mental health issues, as well as the value of having officers trained as mental health officers and being front-line contacts in this area.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience and knowledge of higher ed security and law enforcement, higher ed operations, and higher ed traffic and parking control management is preferred, as well as ability to speak Spanish or Portuguese, and understand social media platforms and their use in community engagement, crisis management, and law enforcement
