Transfer students are admitted based on their academic records from all accredited institutions they have previously attended. Students with 27 completed college credit hours, or more, will be admitted if a 2.0 cumulative GPA has been achieved for all coursework. Students with less than 27 completed college credit hours will be admitted based on freshman admission standards.

Returning (Re-admit) students are students that previously attended Missouri Valley College and have “sat out” for at least one semester. Returning students are held to the same academic standards as our current students. Any student with less than a 2.0 cumulative GPA for ALL coursework attempted, at ALL previous colleges/universities, will be evaluated according to the Academic Standards in the College Catalog to see if they are admissible.

Admission Requirements

Missouri Valley College

• Application for Admission.

• Earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.

• Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in all undergraduate coursework. If the student holds an earned graduate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, the graduate GPA may be used.

• Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended and GRE scores, if required. Acceptance to the institution will not be determined until all transcripts and scores are received.

• An updated resume.

Additional Requirements and Information for International Students

• All international transcripts must be submitted to and evaluated by INCRED (preferred) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services member prior to admission.

• The Master of Arts in Education Administration and Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner programs are currently pending review by the Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Until complete adjudication of the program, an International student can not be issued an I-20 for the program.

Master of Arts in Community Counseling (MACC)

• A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning with a major in Psychology or a closely related field. If the bachelor’s degree is in another closely related field, students must complete the following undergraduate courses: General or Introduction to Psychology, and two other Social Science courses. These must be completed prior to starting any MACC classes.

• Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for the last 60 hours of undergraduate work.

• A personal statement (1-3 typed pages) regarding your interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the helping profession. The personal statement should address one’s reasons for pursuing a Master of Arts in Community Counseling and one’s professional goals following graduation.

• Two or more letters of professional recommendation. The letters of recommendation should be from former professors, supervisors, or other professionals familiar with the candidate’s academic, personal, or professional integrity.

After receipt of application materials, applicants will be contacted for interviews. An interview is required of prospective students. Upon completion of the interview, a letter informing the candidate of acceptance or denial into the program will be issued. If accepted, the candidate must submit a “Letter of Intent” to enroll in the program within twenty-one days of receiving the acceptance letter. Failure to provide a “Letter of Intent” within the designated time period may result in withdrawing the offer letter provided by the program

Master of Arts in Education Administration 

• A personal statement (1-3 typed pages) regarding your interest in pursuing a Master degree in Education Administration and career aspirations/goals.

• Two or more letters of professional recommendation. The letters of recommendation should be from former professors, supervisors, or other professionals familiar with the candidate’s academic, personal, or professional integrity.

Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN)

• Application to the Missouri Valley College School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

• Current unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse (R.N.) in the United States and its territories.

• Transcript review (to be on file in the Registrar’s office) with an academic plan of study completed by nursing and/or nursing-approved faculty.

• BSN from a nationally accredited nursing program with a minimum grade of B in all nursing courses/clinicals.

• A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

• Submission of two professional references.

• Satisfactory criminal background check prior to the first semester of nursing coursework.

• The Shared Governance Committee will review all applicants for meeting admission criteria.

• Applicants not meeting criteria will be sent a letter by the Program Director or Dean.

Transfer Credit

The College accepts master’s level courses and hours from accredited colleges and universities. Transfer credits are awarded as follows:

• The College accepts bachelor’s credible courses and hours from institutional accredited colleges and universities. However, graduating students must fulfill all residency, core, major, and degree requirements.

• Missouri Valley College recognizes the following accrediting bodies for transfer:

• Higher Learning Commission

• Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

• Middle States Commission on Higher Education

• New England Commission of Higher Education

• Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities

• WASC Senior College and University Commission

• Missouri Valley College will consider credit from accredited institutions (not noted above) on a case by case basis. A final determination will be made in consultation with faculty and division chairs.

• Only courses in which a grade of “B” or above was earned will be accepted for transfer credit.

• A maximum of 6 graduate credit hours will be accepted in transfer. MSN candidates, however, may transfer the following courses if taken within 5 years of the application date and earned a grade of B or higher: Pathophysiology for Advanced Nursing Practice, Pharmacology for Advanced Nursing Practice, and Advanced Health Assessment. For the Master of Arts in Community Counseling program. If a transfer course is one of the foundational courses, the student must demonstrate competency (>70%) by passing a written exam in order to receive credit.

• Only MVC coursework will apply toward a student’s grade point average, unless the course is a repeat course previously taken at MVC.
