Missouri Valley College students recently received awards from the Missouri Broadcast Educators Association (MBEA). This organization is made up of mass communication departments from colleges and universities across the state of Missouri. Each year, students enter audio and video projects that are judged by industry professionals.

Missouri Valley College competed against 16 colleges and universities, and received ten awards this year.

MVC won two multi-camera awards, both directed by Chaz Maddi, director of MVC-TV and instructor of broadcast. The first was in the live sports event category for the “Men’s Volleyball v Park University Match” from the fall of 2021. This is the seventh consecutive year that MVC has brought this award home. The second was the streaming of MVC Fine Arts Department’s “A Pandemic Night’s Dream.”

Missouri Valley students receiving awards were: Sakina Komuro, audio commercial, first place; Austin Bohlen, audio sports show, first place interview; Cody Hohenberger, audio station promo, first place; Kevion Long, scriptwriting, commercial/promo/PSA, first place; Laura Quero, scriptwriting, commercial/promo/PSA, first place; Paola Vargas, video documentary film, first place; Cody Hohenberger, video documentary film, second place; Adam Balkin, video feature news, honorable mention; Scott Beasley and Leland Harvey, video multi-camera live event, second place; and Cooper Bryant and Erika Morena, video multi-camera live sporting event, first place.

“I’m really happy with the success we had, for the department and especially for the students,” said Chaz Maddi, KMVC-TV manager and instructor of broadcast. “Eleven different students contributed to the ten awards across multiple areas, and that shows both the diversity and the depth of quality of work students at Missouri Valley are capable of producing. Also, winning a seventh straight award for our sports streams continues our support for Valley’s brand and recruiting for the programs.”
