Financial Aid for International Students
Studying in the U.S. is a big investment, and you don’t have to plan for it alone. Here’s what aid you can receive, how to show you can cover your costs, and how to pay your bill.
Quick answers
What to know first
- Students who aren’t U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens can’t receive federal student aid, but you can still receive MVU scholarships.
- You’re considered for scholarships once your admission documents are in.
- About 90% of MVU’s international students receive scholarships or financial aid.
Scholarships
Aid you can receive.
After all your documents arrive, you’ll be notified of your admission status and receive a scholarship award package.
MVU scholarships
Academic and other MVU scholarships can lower your tuition. Review the awards and the rules for combining them.
Athletic scholarships
Many international Vikings compete for MVU. Talk with a coach and International Admissions about athletic awards.
Ask about current opportunities
International Admissions can tell you which scholarships you may qualify for right now.
Financial documents
Show you can cover your costs.
U.S. immigration rules require proof that you can pay for your entire program. MVU asks for the same before issuing your Form I-20.
01
International Financial Statement
Complete the form showing how you’ll pay for your education.
02
Affidavit of Financial Support
If someone is sponsoring you, they complete an affidavit confirming their support for your college expenses.
03
Proof of financial resources
Send a bank statement or official bank letter showing enough cash to cover the remaining balance on your Scholarship Award Letter for one academic year (two semesters), plus $5,000 for living and personal expenses. It must be in English, dated within the last three months, and show the account holder’s name and available balance.
MVU may ask for more financial documents. Once your documents are approved and you confirm your enrollment by paying the $200 enrollment fee, MVU issues your Form I-20. See the admission steps and guides or read International Students in the catalog.
Federal aid
Permanent resident or eligible noncitizen?
You may qualify for federal student aid if you are one of the following. If so, file the FAFSA with MVU’s school code, 002489.
- A U.S. permanent resident with a Permanent Resident Card (I-551)
- A conditional permanent resident (I-551C)
- A holder of an Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) showing Refugee, Asylum Granted, Indefinite Parole, Humanitarian Parole, or Cuban-Haitian Entrant status

See tuition, fees, housing, and estimated costs for the year. International students also pay for health insurance ($1,150 in 2026–27).
Pay from another country
You or your family can pay through PayMyTuition from any bank, in any country, in any currency.
Payment plans
Spread fall or spring costs over monthly payments. Keep your plan current: falling behind can affect your F-1 status.
