Marshall, Mo. (August 19, 2019) – Missouri Valley College alumni, students and friends were on campus Friday evening for a joint event with the Marshall Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the Walker C. Fletcher Athletic Complex.

The ceremony featured a welcome address from MVC President Dr. Bonnie Humphrey, and remarks from John Fletcher, son of Walker C. Fletcher. The Fletcher Family Foundation provided the lead gift to the campaign. A total of 171 people, businesses and foundations, contributed to the campaign. Members of the Fletcher family, members of the MVC Board of Trustees, MVC administrators, Marshall Mayor Julie Schwetz and members of the Marshall Chamber of Commerce helped in cutting the ribbon to officially open the facility.

The Walker C. Fletcher Athletic Complex is a 28,000 square foot facility, located just to the south of the Burns Athletic Center. Inside the building the Markowitz Center for Strength Training and Wrestling features a new strength and conditioning room and wrestling practice facility. New office space and locker rooms, along with a new athletic training facility are also included in the building.

“I’d like to thank the Fletcher family for their generous gift, along with Alan Markowitz and everyone else who helped bring this new facility to life,” said MVC Executive Vice President Tom Fifer. “This new building will help enhance the student-athlete experience at Missouri Valley, and features some of the best athletic facilities anyone can find in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, and the NAIA.”

Friday’s ceremony was the culmination of work starting with the Valley Will Roll Campaign, which began in the fall of 2017. Construction began in the fall of 2018, and was completed in less than one year by Coil Construction. MVC will host an Open House for those visiting campus during Homecoming weekend. The Open House will take place Saturday, Oct. 5 beginning at 9 a.m. For more information about Homecoming or the Open House, contact linnemana@moval.edu or jaecquesc@moval.edu
