Internships
Earn credit for real-world experience.
An internship lets you apply what you’ve learned in a job related to your major, build skills, and grow your professional network, while earning academic credit.
The basics
- Internships may be paid, unpaid, or partly paid (a stipend)
- Most students intern in their final year of study
- Each credit hour requires at least 50 hours on the job (3 credit hours = 150 hours)
- Credit options vary by major; ask your advisor or School Dean
How to set one up
- Submit an internship application to your School Dean or chair
- Meet with the faculty internship supervisor you’re assigned
- Complete a Student Internship Contract with your learning outcomes and planned projects, and get your supervisor’s approval
International students must also meet with the Designated School Official (DSO) before starting.

Calculate your GPA
GPA calculator
Estimate your semester GPA, and see how it could change your cumulative GPA.
This is an estimate, not your official GPA. P, W, IN, and AU grades don’t count toward GPA, so leave those courses out. If you’re retaking a course you got a D or F in, choose the earlier grade: your new grade replaces it. Questions? Email the Registrar.
How MVU calculates GPA: divide your total quality points by your attempted hours.
- Quality points per credit hour: A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0
- Attempted hours are hours you earn a grade in. IN, P, W, and WP don’t count; WF counts like an F.
- Earned hours are hours with a grade of D or higher.
- Repeated courses: when you retake a course, the first grade is dropped from your GPA. (The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association doesn’t honor academic repeats, so rodeo eligibility is calculated separately.)
Apostille (authenticating your diploma or transcript)
An apostille certifies your diploma or transcript for use in countries that are part of the Hague Convention.
We’re updating our apostille instructions and fees. Until the new information is posted, email the Registrar’s Office or call 660-831-4000, and we’ll walk you through the current process.
