Health & Wellness

Feeling sick, stressed, or just need someone to talk to? Free health care and counseling are right on campus in the Malcolm Center for Student Life.

Emergency or after hours?

Call Public Safety, 24/7

For a medical emergency, call 911. In a mental health crisis, call or text 988 any time.

Student Health Center

Care when you’re under the weather.

The Student Health Center helps you stay healthy so you can keep learning. On-campus services are free, and you don’t need insurance.

What we can help with

Hours and contact

All students

Students living on campus

If you live on campus, you need all four:

How to submit your records

1

Create a Med+Proctor account

Use your MVU email. A one-time $15 fee covers fast processing and lifetime access to your records.

2

Upload your records

Upload proof of each vaccine (a clear phone photo works) at least 72 hours before check-in.

3

Complete your health forms

Fill out the Consent to Treat, Medical History, TB Screening, and Emergency Contact forms below.

Forms and instructions
Requesting an exemption

To request an exemption for religious or other reasons, ask the Dean of Students or the Student Health Center for a waiver request. You’ll explain your reason and provide documentation from a licensed medical doctor that you do not currently have any of the diseases covered by the requirements. MVU may deny a request.

If there is an outbreak of one of these diseases, students with an approved exemption will be removed from campus right away, without special arrangements for coursework or a refund.

Counseling Center

A place to be heard.

College brings a lot at once. Counseling is a chance to talk things through, build coping skills, and learn healthy habits, with a licensed professional who is on your side.

How it works

What you can talk about

Anything that’s getting in your way, including stress, anxiety, depression, relationships and family, grief and loss, trauma, sexual assault, self-esteem and body image, substance use, focus and motivation, and adjusting to a new place.

Make an appointment

Email Katie Kirby, MA, NCC, LPC-S, Director of Counseling Services, at kirbyk@moval.edu.

Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m., during the fall and spring semesters. Malcolm Center, Student Health Services suite.

Your privacy matters. What you share in counseling is confidential and kept separate from other student records, except in cases of imminent danger, when the law requires otherwise, or when you give permission.

Approaches our counselor uses

When you need something more, such as long-term or specialized therapy or medication, the Counseling Center can help with a referral.

Free support anytime

Free apps can also help you practice skills between sessions, such as Mindfulness Coach, PTSD Coach, CBT-i Coach (sleep), DBT Self-Help, MoodTools, and Smiling Mind. They don’t replace professional care.

MVCares

Care for the whole you.

MVCares brings together programs that provide information, awareness, and care, so every student has what they need to succeed.

Thor’s Pantry

Free food for any currently enrolled student, full-time or part-time. What you take is kept private.

Behind MacDonald Hall, next to the Morris Experimental Theater (Redman Street). Monday–Friday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m., by appointment. In an emergency, the pantry can open outside those hours.

Alcohol and drug awareness

If you’re worried about your drinking or drug use, or someone else’s, the Counseling Center offers confidential screening and referrals.

In Marshall: Alcoholics Anonymous, 660-886-9940, and Compass Health, 941 South Cherokee Drive. Nationally: SAMHSA’s free helpline, 1-800-662-4357.

Call for help: medical amnesty

In an alcohol or drug emergency, call for help. MVU won’t pursue conduct charges against a student who calls for help or actively helps someone who needs it. You may be asked to meet with Student Affairs.

Help stock Thor’s Pantry. Donate nonperishable food (microwavable soups, peanut butter, ramen, mac and cheese, canned fruits, vegetables, and meats, and cereal) and travel-size toiletries at the Student Affairs Office, join a food drive, or give online.

Stay active

Work out in the Fitness Center or join an intramural team.

Accessibility services

Request academic accommodations.

Title IX support

Reporting options and support after sexual misconduct.
