The work
Support patients and the healthcare team.
Clinical medical assistants combine patient care with office know-how. A typical day can include taking vital signs, assisting with exams and procedures, giving injections, performing EKGs and blood draws, checking patients in and out, and updating electronic health records.
CCMAs work in hospitals, physicians’ offices, outpatient clinics, and other healthcare facilities.

Before you enroll
Questions, answered.
Do I need experience before I start?
No. There are no prerequisites to take the course. The NHA sets its own eligibility rules for the CCMA exam, so check them before you schedule your exam.
Is a CCMA the same as a CNA?
No. CCMAs handle a mix of office work, clinical procedures, and patient care. Certified nurse assistants (CNAs) focus on hands-on daily care, such as helping patients dress, bathe, and move.
What’s the job outlook?
See current pay and outlook for medical assistants in the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook ↗.
