“The 2022 Fall Research Symposium was particularly good,” said David Bowers, MVC instructor and SRS committee member. “I think students’ grappling with difficult questions about our world are important. This year, I was fortunate enough to see students talking about some really interesting social issues, and presenting well thought-out solutions to those problems. It gives me a lot of hope that when the student population at Valley graduates and joins the world outside of academics they’re going to work to make the world a better place.”

Fall 2022 Student Research Symposium award winners included:

Creative Works Winner Kristina K C: “In My Universe Poetry Podcast;” Creative Works Honorable Mentions Shu’Ron Thompson: “Let’s talk about Sex” film documentary, Harrison Boynton: An excerpt from Returning of the Lost and Kristin Boynton: Chapter Reading from A Reason to Kill.

Presentation Winner Izak Johnson: “Distribution of Darters (Percidae) in the Salt Fork Creek, Saline County, Missouri;” Presentation Honorable Mentions Eva Agcailoli and Camden Philips: “Our Role as Political Subjects,” Sidni Hunter: “Imperialist Propaganda and the Central Intelligence Agency’s use of Neoliberal Rebranding,” Dajah Robinson: “Let’sTalk About Sex WORK.”

“I was really impressed by the number of students who showed up to each session and the number of presenters who participated,” said Harley Hagenhoff, MVC education major and student representative on the SRS committee. “Overall, I think this year’s symposium was a huge success for all of us!”
