MVC Athletic Training would like to thank the following individuals for their continuous support they provide for our student-athletes.
Dr. Bus Tarbox, MD – Team Physician (Orthopedics)
Dr. Bus Tarbox became affiliated with the Missouri Valley College athletic department and Athletic Training Program in 2002. Dr. Tarbox completed medical school at the University of Colorado Health Sciences after first graduating Kansas State University. Dr. Tarbox then completed his general surgery internship and residency at the University of Hawaii before coming to the University of Missouri for his orthopedic residency. Dr. Tarbox completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, before joining the Columbia Orthopaedic Group in 2001. Dr. Tarbox holds professional memberships in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and the Missouri State Orthopaedic Society. Additional Dr. Tarbox in a team physician for the University of Missouri menís wrestling team.
Dr. Ellefsen - Team Physician (Orthopedics)
Dr. Brian Ellefsen became involved with Missouri Valley College athletics and the Athletic Training Program when he moved to Marshall in 2013. Dr. Ellefsen was a member of the University of Missouri football team and completed his undergraduate degree in 1984 from the University of Missouri. Dr. Ellefsen obtained his medical training at the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, MO in 1988. Dr. Ellefsen performed his residency training at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis, MO, before completing clinical orthopedic rotations for the treatment of hand and pediatric injuries in Tampa, FL. Dr. Ellefsen moved to Marshall after practicing orthopedics in Carthage, MO, for many years. Dr. Ellefsen is also a volunteer physician for Marshall High School athletics.
Dr. Kelly Ross, DO – Medical Director,
Athletic Training Program
Dr. Kelly Ross became affiliated with the Missouri Valley College Athletic Training Program and Missouri Valley College Athletics in 2005 and has been the Medical Director of the Missouri Valley College Athletic Training Program since 2006. Dr. Ross completed medical school at University Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City after completing a degree in Zoology at Arizona State. Dr. Ross performed her surgical internship and orthopedic residency at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan, before completing her fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago. Dr. Ross, a native of Carrolton, Missouri, is currently an orthopedic surgeon at Marshall Orthopedic & Sports Medicine at Fitzgibbon Hospital which allows her to practice medicine close to her family. Dr. Ross has the additional duties at Fitzgibbon Hospital of being the Rehabilitation Services Medical Director. Dr. Ross is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Ross is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Tim Reid, MD – Team Physician (Family Medicine)
Dr. Tim Reid became involved with Missouri Valley College athletics and the Athletic Training Program in 2009. Dr. Reid graduated the University of Missouri School of Medicine in 2005. Dr. Reid remained at the University of Missouri to complete his residency in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and was appointed Chief Resident during his final year. Dr. Reid continued his training by performing a sports medicine fellowship at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Dr. Reid is board certified in Family Medicine and has presented at various conferences. Dr. Reid also volunteers as a physician for Carrollton High School. Dr. Reid currently operates the Reid Medical Clinic in Carrolton, Missouri.
Susan Vogelsmeier MSN, FNP-BC Ė
Missouri Valley College-Student Health Center
Susan has been a Nurse Practitioner at Missouri Valley College since 2000. Her primary responsibility is providing general medical health care to Missouri Valley College student-athletes. She graduated from Graceland University with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in 1999. Susan continued her education and earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2010. Additionally, Susan is employed as an assistant professor for Gracelandís online MSN-FNP program and works part-time for Missouri Valley Physicians in Marshall and the Womenís Health and Surgical Center in Sedalia. Susan is board certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Susan is married, has 3 grown sons and resides in Sweet Springs, MO.
