Dr. Bonnie L. Humphrey

Dr. Bonnie L. Humphrey has served as Missouri Valley College's 13th president since January 2005. Under her direction, MVC has established the MVC School of Nursing and Health Sciences and added 5 other majors to the MVC curriculum. She also was the driving force behind the Maastricht Institute of Entrepreneurship, which is an annual speaker series featuring speakers from around the world.

During her tenure as president, MVC has seen its highest enrollment and retention in its history, an increase in the participation of alumni and friends, the completion of two residence halls, and renovations to campus facilities including science labs, residence halls, and athletic facilities.

Dr. Humphrey served as vice president of academic affairs at Missouri Valley College from July 2001 until being named president. As the vice president of academic affairs, Dr. Humphrey assisted with the design and implementation of the Learning Center and on-campus “Smart Classrooms.” She conceptualized and designed the technology laboratory for business and industry training and designed and implemented the plan to reduce the faculty workload to 12 credit hours. Dr. Humphrey was instrumental in guiding the institution to a 10-year accreditation designation with the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

From 1993 to 2001, Dr. Humphrey held the position of dean of academic affairs at Moberly Area Community College in Moberly, Mo. She was very active in both local and state level educational organizations. At MACC, she also held the positions of associate dean of academic affairs, assistant to the president and adjunct instructor in English. Dr. Humphrey began her education career teaching English for 12 years at Salisbury High School.

Dr. Humphrey received her bachelor’s degree in English education with distinction from the University of Missouri- Kansas City in 1980; a master’s degree in education from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1990; and a Ph.D. in instructional theory and practice from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 2004.

Dr. Humphrey assumed the presidency from Dr. Ed Elliott, President Emeritus of Central Missouri State University, who provided leadership for the College as interim president from August 2004 to January 2005. Dr. Humphrey is the first female president to serve Missouri Valley College since its establishment in 1889.

Dr. Humphrey serves on numerous committees including the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Administrative Council (NAC). The NAC is charged with initiating policies and oversight related to NAIA championships, ratings, awards, and honors. Dr. Humphrey is also a member for the Heart of America Athletic Conference’s (HAAC) Council of President’s.

Dr. Humphrey is married to Dennis Humphrey, a retired educator of the Salisbury School District and they have 3 children: Joe, of Dallas, Texas; Lindsay Hunolt, a 2006 MVC graduate, her husband, Eric, a 2004 MVC graduate, and their children, Macie and Zane; and Scott, a 2010 MVC graduate.
