Mission: The Missouri Valley College Counseling Center supports the academic mission of the College by providing services and programs designed to help students maintain their emotional well-being in order to achieve their educational success. Our mission is inspired by the values of the compassion, diversity, social responsibility, integrity, and accountability of individual students while also focusing on the milieu of the entire campus community.

Services Offered: Services are designed to provide help for common problems reported by college students. The Counseling Center provides free, confidential services to help you. Counseling may be helpful if you have concerns about any of the following:

  • Academics:
  • - Difficulty adjusting to college
  • - Poor study skills/time management
  • - Test anxiety
  • - Listening/Communication concerns

  • Feelings:
  • - Feeling sad or depressed most of the time
  • - Thoughts of suicide
  • - Angry, grouchy or irritable
  • - Loneliness or isolation

  • Personal Concerns:
  • - Abusing alcohol or drugs
  • - Sexual abuse or assault
  • - Eating disorders
  • - Sleeping too much or too little
  • - Coping with stress or anxiety

  • Relationship Concerns:
  • - Family problems
  • - Conflict with others
  • - Coping with a relationship breakup
  • - Coping with death
  • - Uncomfortable in social situations

  • Identity and Self-Esteem:
  • - Sexuality issues
  • - Negative thinking or low self-esteem
  • - Need to be assertive

* If you feel that any of these are of concern to you, you may find it helpful to speak with a counselor.

What to expect: When meeting with a counselor, the first initial interview will be an intake session. During this initial interview, we will talk about your needs and the ways in which the Counseling Center might be able to help. Options may include: individual or group counseling, career testing or counseling, or referral to another office or service provider better suited to your needs.
