Dear Missouri Valley College Students,
Welcome to the new semester! We would like you to be aware of the policy for use of the Campus Computer Lab computers:
- All students are expected to be respectful of other students and staff.
- Loud talking or the use of cell phones in computer labs is not permitted.
- Viewing of pornography, including web sites and e-mail attachments is not permitted.
- Food, drink, spurs and tobacco are not permitted in any campus lab.
TECH LAB:
- All Missouri Valley College (MVC) students are expected to bring their current MVC Student ID card for scanning when using the Tech Lab only.
- Please be prepared to have your current Student ID card scanned by the Lab Monitor when you enter. Your ID card will be returned after scanning.
- Students arriving at the Tech Lab without their current Student ID card will be asked to go get their ID card. If the card is expired, students will need to get a current card from Campus Life.
- Students without their ID card are welcome to use the four other campus labs which do not require Student ID cards (Learning Center lab, Science Center labs, and the main Library lab).
The use of computer labs is a privilege and may be revoked if students disregard lab policies. Thank you for your cooperation in following Campus Computer Lab policies!

NOTE: By logging-on to any Missouri Valley College campus lab computer, the student is indicating that he/she agrees to comply with all MVC Computer Lab Policies.
Missouri Valley College (MVC) offers computer experiences in the form of an “open” lab, which allows MVC students to access information beyond the physical setting of the campus. Word processing, e-mail, and Internet services are among the applications offered to provide a broad base for student learning experiences.
Use of the Missouri Valley College Computer Labs is a privilege that may be revoked by Missouri Valley College at any time for abusive conduct or violation of the following policies and procedures:
- Tampering with computer equipment; adding to, changing, deleting, or otherwise altering system files (this includes desktop icons, programs, screensavers, wallpaper, control panels, etc.).
- Limit of 2 students per computer station. Viewing pay-per-view Internet events is not permitted in the Labs.
- Maintain a quiet environment at all times: No loud talking, disruptive behavior, yelling, or cell phone conversations in any lab.
- Campus Lab computers shall not be used for:
- X-rated sites or viewing pornographic material from e-mails or other sources.
- Commercial purposes.
- Sharing software (KaZaa, Morpheus, SongSpy, Gnutell, Napster, Messengers, etc.)
- Network intrusion of any kind (hacking, packet sniffing, port scanning, etc.)
- Library catalog-specific computers in Murrell Library and the Teacher Education Library will be used for library research only. These computers shall not be used for:
- X-rated sites or viewing pornographic material from e-mails or other sources.
- Games of any kind (online or machine installed).
- Chatting of any kind (online or machine installed).
- Commercial purposes.
- Sharing software (KaZaa, Morpheus, SongSpy, Gnutell, Napster, Messengers, etc.)
- Network intrusion of any kind (hacking, packet sniffing, port scanning, etc.)
- Sending X-rated sites or harassing and/or offensive e-mail to others is prohibited.
- Users must log-off when finished with the machine.
- Sharing your username and password with anyone is strictly prohibited.
- Patrons will be charged 5 cents for every page printed by a network printer.
- MVC lab staff will monitor lab computers electronically for compliance with lab policies.
- Violation of lab policies may result in loss of computer use privileges on campus for the semester.

NEW STUDENTS:
User Name:
First initial, middle initial (if you have one), and last initial, followed by the last 4 digits of your Student ID Number (on your ID card.)
Password is: First 3 letters of last name, First letter is capitalized, followed by the last 5 digits of your student ID. (Example: Abc12345)
NOTE: You may be required to change your password after the first log-on.
New Passwords must be at least 8 characters long.
RETURNING STUDENTS: Use yourexisting log-on from last semester and the password you had set up previously.
Prompted to change password? If a screen pops up saying “Change Password”, your password has expired and you should follow the instructions in that pop-up screen to create a new password.
NOTE: If you have forgotten your password, please go to see the IT Department in Tech Center Room 214… bring your current Student ID card.

After you log-on to the computer, do the following to check your mail:
- Go to http://www.moval.edu and click on the “Viking Mail” icon on the right side of the screen.
- New Students User Name: enter your first initial, middle initial (if you have one) and last initial, followed by the last 4 digits of your Student ID number. The e-mail account password is: the first three letters of your last name (the first letter is capitalized) and the last 5 digits of your student ID. Example Abc12345). You may choose to change this password by pressing/holding down the following keys at the same time: Ctrl-Alt-Del and then select the “Change Password” button. Follow the prompts to change your password.
- Returning Students User Name: use your existing log-on from last semester.
Your Email Address: is the same as your User Name with @moval.edu on the end.
Example: mmm7777@moval.edu
NOTE: all letters are lower case

There are FIVE computer labs available for use on campus:
Murrell Library Lab: Microsoft Office 2007 with Publisher, and SPSS software installed. They also have MSN Messenger.
Tech Center Lab: Microsoft Office 2007 with Publisher, and MSN Messenger. Some computers have Advanced Software. Check with Lab Monitor or refer to the information about Lab Computer Software posted inside each door.
Science Center Labs (2 labs): Microsoft Office 2007 with Publisher in both labs. Small lab has SPSS, SQL, COBOL, Visual Studio, Publisher and FrontPage.
Learning Center Lab: Microsoft Office 2007 with Publisher. Assistance is available from tutors and training is offered for beginning computer users.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCESSING AND SAVING STUFF TO YOUR SERVER SPACE:
FROM AN MVC CAMPUS LAB:
- Log in using your Username and Password.
Example: Username = mmm4592
- Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.
- Your MVC Server Space icon will be visible.
Example: It will look something like:
mmm4592 on “noahserver”
- Click on your Server icon to access your server space.
FROM YOUR ROOM:
- Click the START button (lower left corner) & choose RUN
- Type in the following:
\\172.19.6.12\users\students\your username
(Note: Put your username at the end of the typed information above or you may be prompted to enter your ID and password again)

From a campus lab computer:
- Go to the Start button at the bottom-left of the computer screen,
- Select RUN in the bottom right-side column,
- In the text area box that opens, type the following:
\\caesar\ikon scanning\library
- The Library Reserve folder will open up onto your screen,
- Double-click on the folder that has your professor’s name to open it,
- Select the reserve document you want to view when the professor’s folder opens.
From your room computer:
- Go to the Start button at the bottom-left of the computer screen,
- Select RUN in the bottom right-side column,
- In the text area box that opens, type the following:
\\172.19.6.14\ikon scanning\library
- The Library Reserve folder will open up onto your screen,
- Double-click on the folder that has your professor’s name,
- Select the reserve document you want to view when the professor’s folder opens.
Accessing the CAESAR server and Portfolios

- Go to the Start button at the bottom of the computer screen and select RUN
- In the text area type: \\caesar\Portfolios and follow it by the semester or portfolio that you want to access. It should look like one of the following:
\\caesar\Portfolios\Fall2008 or \\caesar\Portfolios\Science
- Add your username to the end of the address above to access your personal folder on the Caesar server, so it will look something like the example below:
\\caesar\Portfolios\Fall2008\smithj
- Click OK. If you are prompted for a username and password, type in your normal login for campus computers.
