Missouri Valley College Nursing Program

Missouri Valley College (MVC) Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree educates and trains students in providing safe, evidence-based, and compassionate nursing care to complex patients in diverse settings. This program lays the foundation for delivering nursing care to individuals, families, and diverse populations. Students gain nursing experience in a variety of clinical settings such as local community hospitals, tertiary care centers, and other community health centers/agencies.

All students must complete the MVC application process and be accepted into MVC. Acceptance into MVC does not automatically guarantee admission into the nursing program. MVC admission information and the application process can be found on the admissions website. Contact the admissions office if you need further assistance.

The MVC nursing program, leading to a BSN degree, requires students to complete two years of prerequisite and core courses and apply to the program in the spring semester of their sophomore pre-nursing year. Students applying to the program are evaluated on their ACT, TEAS, and TOEFL scores, GPA's, and letters of reference. The top 20 candidates will be selected to matriculate into the program. The following two years (Junior and Senior) will consist of intense evidence-based didactic classroom work and clinical rotations in specific areas of nursing.

The MVC Nursing Program adheres to standards and guidelines set forth by the Missouri State Board of Nursing (MSBON) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The MVC Nursing Program has full approval from the MSBON and is nationally accredited by CCNE.

Completion of the BSN program does not guarantee licensure or eligibility to sit for the NCLEX licensure examination. Students will need to review the board of nursing regulations regarding the eligibility to sit for the examination prior to the testing date.

Nursing didactic course work is completed at MVC School of Nursing building located on the Fitzgibbon Hospital campus. MVC and Fitzgibbon Hospital partner in educating nurses to help meet the health care needs of the community. However, clinical rotations may require the students to travel out of town for the best learning experiences. Learning experiences include caring for patients across the lifespan. Every effort will be made to locate sites within one hour of the school. Students will be responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses. Car-pooling is acceptable.

The four-year program plan is located under the Cohort Group heading on the nursing webpage. All students will adhere to the 2 + 2 Nursing Program Curriculum.
