Division of Fine Arts to Present An Evening of Beckett

Posted February 28, 2018

The Missouri Valley College Division of Fine Arts will present An Evening of Beckett March 21-24 at 7:30 p.m. nightly in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre on the MVC campus.

This production will consist of four of Samuel Beckett’s most challenging and thought provoking short plays, Not I, Rockaby, Ohio Impromtu, and Act Without Words II.

Generally regarded as one of the greatest playwrights of the 20th century, Beckett’s plays take to the barren landscape of the psyche where we find ourselves struggling with the meaning of our existence.  In a landscape fraught with despair, Beckett’s characters give us hope with a dark humor that allows them to forge ahead.  They are weathered and often alone, but they continue to push forward.

“It is exciting to be able to work with developing actors on these complex roles,” said Harold Hynick, associate professor of theatre. “Each of these plays offers performers unique opportunities to explore and grow as artists and human beings.”

The production will be directed by Associate Professor of Theatre Harold Hynick, with costume design by Dyann Rozema, and scenic, lighting and sound design by Professor of Theatre Jay Rozema.  It will feature performances by Alexandria Taylor (senior theatre major from Knoxville, Tennessee), Makayla Rodgers (sophomore theatre major from Imperial, Missouri), and Associate Professor Hynick.

Tickets are $5 for adults and free for anyone with an MVC ID or for those under 18.  To reserve tickets, please visit: http://www.moval.edu/fine_arts/tickets.php. For more information on this production, please contact Harold Hynick at hynickh@moval.edu.
