Missouri Valley Adds Shotgun Sports to Athletic Lineup

Posted May 19, 2017

Marshall, Mo. (May 19, 2017)- The Missouri Valley College Athletic Department announces the addition of shotgun sports to its lineup of intercollegiate programs.  The shotgun sports program will be comprised of both a men’s and women’s team, and will begin competition in the 2017-18 athletic year.

In addition to the new program, the Athletic Department announces the hiring of Shane Reickard as shotgun sports head coach.  Reickard comes to Missouri Valley after spending the past seven years at Wentworth (Mo.) Military Academy and Junior College in Lexington, Mo.

Reickard brings over two decades of experience in shooting sports to Missouri Valley.  Dating back to his time as a student at Blue Springs (Mo.) High School, Reickard competed on multiple state qualifying teams in shooting sports.  He was a member of the 1996 team that was named the ATA Hall of Fame Team Event Champions.  He was also named the Lake Lotawana Youth Outstanding Shooter and earned the Most Consecutive Breaks award in 1996.

“I am excited to be part of the Missouri Valley College Athletic Department,” said Reickard.  “Missouri Valley has meant a lot to my family and getting this opportunity to build this program is a great honor.”

In addition to his experience in shooting sports, Reickard has coached wrestling, football and track and field on all levels.  He was a coach for the American Samoa Olympic Wrestling Team, and coached in the Olympic Qualifiers for wrestling in Istanbul, Turkey and the World Championships in Las Vegas.  Reickard also coached multiple National qualifiers and All-Americans at Wentworth.

“Shane brings a great passion for shooting sports to the college,” said Associate Athletic Director Mike Machholz.  “Shane continues to compete in different events around the state.  His passion and experience with recruiting and developing athletic programs should be a great asset to the building of shotgun sports for Missouri Valley College.  We are excited to have Shane on board, and to get this program off and running.”
