Lilian Blasque Leads Tennis All-Conference Awards as Player of the Year

Marshall, Mo. (May 2, 2017)- The Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s tennis teams were recognized with all-conference selections following the 2017 season.  The Viking women’s team put four individuals and two doubles teams on the all-conference list, led by Senior Lilian Blasque (Andradina, Brazil), who was named the conference’s Player of the Year for the second time in her career.  The men’s team added three individuals and one doubles team on the all-conference list.


Blasque was chosen at the conference’s Player of the Year for the second-straight year, and picked up her fourth first team all-conference selection as a singles player.  Blasque, and teammate Senior Beatriz Sales (Botucatu, Brazil), were chosen to the all-conference second team in the doubles category for the third-straight year.  Joining Blasque as an all-conference first team singles selection was Freshman Elizabeth Wahle (Helmstedt, Germany).  Sales and Senior Adela Gil Mayor (Barcelona, Spain) were second team selections, while the doubles team of Gil/Wahle was chosen to the all-conference first team. 


The women’s team finished the season with an overall record of 11-6 and advanced to the conference postseason tournament championship.


Leading the men’s team was Junior Stefano Benedetti (Toronto, Canada) who was chosen to the all-conference first team as a singles player for the second-straight year.  Benedetti and teammate Sophomore Abdul Alhamzawi (Pompano Beach, Fla.) were selected to the all-conference first team in doubles.  Freshman Benedikt Voelker (Neubeum, Germany) and Sophomore Rei Pelushi (Tirana, Albania) were both all-conference second team singles selections.  Voelker and teammate Freshman Mark Kerndl (Grafing, Germany) were also chosen as an all-conference second team doubles team.


The men’s team finished the 2017 season with a 13-5 overall record and advanced to the championship round of the conference postseason tournament.
