Missouri Broadcast Educators Association Students Win Awards

Posted April 26, 2017

Missouri Valley College students recently received awards from the Missouri Broadcast Educators Association (MBEA). This organization is made up of mass communication departments from 14 colleges and universities across the state of Missouri. Each year, students enter audio and video projects that are judged by professionals in the industry.

Missouri Valley’s communication students brought home the following awards:

  • Multi camera live event: first place, Missouri Valley College, broadcast of a Viking men’s basketball game.

  • Audio sports play-by-play: first place, Nathan Gerdts (Sr., Concordia, Missouri), broadcast of a high school baseball game. Notably, this is Gerdts’ third year in a row winning first place in this category.

  • Audio commercial: first place, Troy Jones (Jr., St. Louis, Missouri), commercial for Fitzgibbon Hospital.

  • "This is the second time in three years our students have won the live multi-camera category. Part of our mission is to simulate real-world environments for the students, and the live sports coverage we do is a huge part of that. Games aren't scripted, and students can't fix mistakes, but they still have to tell the story of the game, and the students are doing that very well," said Chaz Maddi, mass communication instructor.
