Viking Rodeo Teams Compete at NWCC

Marshall, Mo. (April 24, 2017)-  The Missouri Valley College rodeo programs competed at the Northwest Mississippi Community College rodeo over the weekend.  The men’s team captured a championship, while the women’s team placed second.


The men’s team won three different events over the weekend. Senior Dalton Kingery (Monroe, Iowa) came first in the saddle bronc riding event with 60 total points,  and also placed third in the bareback riding event.  Senior Matt Borton (Ostego, Mich.) placed second in the bareback riding event. In the steer wrestling event, Austin Schneider (Beetown, Wisconsin) won the event with 170 total points, while Junior Ben Kilburg (LaMotte, Iowa)  placed third with 130 total points. Taking home the bull riding title was Junior Briar Dittmer (Runnells, Iowa) who won the event with 120 total points. Junior Justin Stoltz (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) placed third in the event.


The women’s team placed in three different events over the weekend. Freshman Fallon Dyer (Ottawa, Kan.) placed second in the breakaway roping competition, with 135 points. In the goat tying competition, Senior Jacy Nelson (Iowa Falls, Iowa) placed second with 160 total points, while Dyer placed third with 110 total points. In the barrel racing event, Junior Mallory Willard (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) tied for second with 100 total points.


The Viking men’s rodeo team finished atop the standings with 665 points, beating second place Southern Arkansas by 80 points.  The men’s team placed second with 275 points.  Southern Arkansas won the rodeo with 490 points.


The rodeo teams will next be in action April 27-29 at the Cossatot Community College rodeo in Texerkana, Ark.
