Viking Tennis Teams Defeat Bethany College on the Road

The Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled to Winfield, KS, to play against Bethany (Kan.) College, Sunday afternoon. The men’s team won 5-4, with Freshman Benedikt Voelker (Neubeuem, Germany) sealing the win for the Vikings. The women’s team also won.

Men’s Doubles


Junior Stefano Benedetti (Toronto, Canada)/Junior Abdul Alhamzawi (Pompano Beach, Fla.) defeated Juan Mateus/ Alvaro Rengifo: 8-5  


Freshman Marc Kerndl (Grafing, Germany)/Voelker defeated Edward Sengai/Conrad Maschrenhas: 8-2


Junior Greg Teal (Ottawa, Canada)/Freshman Marius Castella (Barcelona, Spain) fell to Teodor Antelja/Aaron Moses: 8-6


Men’s Singles


Abdul Alhamzawi fell to Juan Mateus: 6-2, Retired


Stefano Benedetti fell to Teodor Antelja: 7-6(7-4), 6-3


Marc Kerndl fell to Alvaro Rengifo: 6-2,6-3


Benedikt Voelker defeated Conrad Maschrenhas: 7-6(7-4), 6-2


Freshman Joel Noya (Barcelona, Spain) defeated  Ryan Telesford: 6-2,6-1


Greg Teal  defeated Jamie Olarieta: 6-2,6-0

The Viking men’s team moves to 11-4 on the season, while the women’s team moves to 9-5.


The Viking Women’s tennis team will host Stephens College, Wednesday at Indian Foothills Park (4 p.m.).
