Marshall, Mo. (April 10, 2017)- The Missouri Valley College football team heads into its spring practices as the No. 11 ranked team in the 2017 NAIA Football Coaches’ Spring Top 25 Poll.  The Vikings were ranked No. 11 to conclude the 2016 season.


Missouri Valley is coming off a 2016 season which saw the team finish with a 9-3 overall record, a 4-1 record in Heart of America Athletic Conference Southern Division play and earned a berth into the NAIA Football Championship Series for the first time since 2014 and eighth time since 2006.


Four other teams from the Heart are featured in the spring poll, including two other teams from the Southern Division.  Baker (Kan.) University comes in at No. 2, and Benedictine (Kan.) College is ranked at No. 24.  From the Northern Division, Grand View (Iowa) is ranked at No. 9 and William Penn (Iowa) University finishes out the poll at No. 25.  Defending National champion University of St. Francis (Ind.) tops the poll.  St. Francis defeated the Vikings in the first round of the 2016 NAIA FCS.


Missouri Valley is currently holding spring practices, and will hold a spring scrimmage, April 20 at 3:30 p.m., at Gregg-Mitchell Field.  The 2017 season opens Aug. 26, at No. 24 Benedictine, with a game featured on ESPN3, Mediacom and KSMO-TV.  Kickoff is 11 a.m.  The first home game takes place Sept. 2, against No. 25 William Penn at 6 p.m.  Homecoming is set for Oct. 14 at 2 p.m., hosting Avila (Mo.) University.
