Casey Wood, Coach Fistick Lead Men's Volleyball Conference Honors

Marshall, Mo. (April 7, 2017)- The Missouri Valley College men’s volleyball team has been recognized with four of its student-athletes on the 2017 Heart of America Athletic Conference All-Conference Men’s Volleyball Team, and Head Coach Jason Fistick was named Co-Coach of the Year.

 

Senior Outside Hitter Casey Wood (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) led the Vikings as a first team all-conference selection.  Wood finished the regular season leading the team in total kills (303), kills per game (3.26) total attempts (705), total points (334.5) and passing percentage (.962).  He also ranked second on the team in matches played (26), in total games played (93) and digs (142).  Wood ranked second in the Heart in total kills, fifth in kills per game and tenth in total digs.  He ranked No. 14 in the NAIA in total kills. 

 

Joining Wood on the all-conference team are Junior Setter Andrea Maggio (Vasto, Italy) and Freshman Libero Skyler Capplonch (Kailua, Hawaii), both as second team selections. 

 

Maggio led the team in assists (887), service aces (28), was second in digs (139) and finished third in matches played (25), games played (88).  Maggio also finished second in the Heart in total assists and third in assists per game (10.1), along with fifth in total aces.  He also finished the regular season eighth in the NAIA in assists per game and ninth in total assists.

 

Capplonch finished the regular season with 260 total pass attempts and a percentage of .935.  Ha also led the team in total digs (196) and digs per game (2.9).  He finished the season tied for second in the Heart in digs per game.

 

Also, Senior Middle Blocker Jose Martins Arcuri (Sao Lourenco, Brazil) was chosen as an honorable mention.  Martins Arcuri finished the season with 165 total kills, and led the team in matches played (27), games played (95) and total blocks (75).  He also finished the season with 220 total points.

 

Head Coach Jason Fistick was chosen as the Heart’s Co-Coach of the Year after guiding the team to a 16-11 overall record and a 7-3 record in conference play.  The team improved by four wins from the previous season, and had its first winning season since 2014.  The Vikings also earned the No. 2 seed in this weekend’s Heart Postseason Conference Tournament.  Missouri Valley will play at 4 p.m., Friday against the winner of the Culver-Stockton (Mo.) College/Mount Mercy (Iowa) University first round match.
