Posted April 4, 2017

Marshall, Mo. (April 4, 2017)- The Missouri Valley College men’s volleyball team moved up one spot in the latest NAIA Men’s Volleyball Coaches’ Top 10 Poll released Tuesday.  The Vikings are now ranked No. 8 heading into the Heart of America Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament.

The men’s volleyball team finished with a 3-2 record in matches since the previous poll was released two weeks ago.  The Vikings fell to No. 1 Grand View (Iowa) University and No. 2 Missouri Baptist University.  Missouri Valley picked up victories over then-No. 7 Clarke (Iowa) University and Mount Mercy (Iowa) University at home.  The team closed out the regular season at No. 5 Ottawa (Kan.) University, and was awarded a win by forfeit in the match, to finish the regular season with a 16-11 overall record.

The Vikings now move into the Heart Postseason Tournament, and have been awarded with the No. 2 seed, after finishing conference play with a 7-3 record.  Missouri Valley will play in the tournament semifinals Friday at 4 p.m., against the winner of the Culver-Stockton (Mo.) College/Mount Mercy (Iowa) University match earlier in the day.  The tournament takes place at Grand View, in Des Moines, Iowa, with the championship match set for Saturday at 2 p.m.

In addition to the conference tournament this weekend, the NAIA will announce the final coaches’ poll, along with the eight teams selected to the 2017 Men’s Volleyball National Invitational.  Those announcements will come Sunday afternoon.  Missouri Valley could earn an automatic berth into the National event by capturing the conference tournament championship, or by earning one of the three available at-large berths.  The National Invitational takes place April 19-22 at Missouri Baptist in St. Louis, Mo.
