Viking Tennis Teams Top Missouri Baptist at Home

Marshall, Mo. (March 31, 2017)- The Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s tennis teams hosted Missouri Baptist University in matches Friday at Indian Foothills Park.  The Viking men’s team earned a 6-3 victory in matches, while the women’s team topped MBU, 8-1.

 

Men’s Singles:

No 1-Junior Abdul Alhamzawi (Pompano Beach, Fla.) lost to Lucas Oliveira, 0-6, 4-6

No 2-Junior Stefano Benedetti (Toronto, Canada) defeated Ricardo Martin, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5

No 3-Freshman Marc Kerndl (Grafing, Germany) lost to James Tobin, 5-7, 1-6

No 4-Freshman Benedikt Voelker (Neubeuern, Germany) defeated Dylan Walker, 6-0, 6-4

No 5-Sophomore Rei Pelushi (Tirana, Albania) defeated Sean Nanney, 6-3, 6-0

No 6-Freshman Joel Noya (Barcelona, Spain) defeated Nicoy Rolle, 6-0, 6-2

 

Men’s Doubles:

No 1- Alhamzawi/Benedetti defeated Tobin/Oliveira, 9-8 (7-5)

No 2-Kerndl/Benedikt Voelker defeated Martin/Rolle, 8-4

No 3-Junior Greg Teal (Ottawa, Canada)/Freshman Marius Castella (Barcelona, Spain) lost to Nanney/Walker, 3-8

 

Women’s Singles:

No 1-Senior Lilian Blasque (Andradina, Brazil) defeated Thais Castiglioni, 6-4, 6-3

No 2-Freshman Elisabeth Wahle (Helmstedt, Germany) defeated Krista Tyson, 4-0, retire

No 3-Senior Adela Gil Mayor (Barcelona, Spain) defeated Ashley Bonnie, 6-1, 7-5

No 4-Senior Beatriz Sales (Botucatu, Brazil) defeated Dani Stevenson, 6-1, 6-0

No 5-Freshman Reevaw Lewis (Miami, Fla.) defeated Emily Brown, 8-5

No 6-Senior Jelica Stamatovic (Belgrade, Serbia) lost Cheyenne Anderson, 4-8

 

Women’s Doubles:

No 1-Gil Mayor/Wahle defeated Castiglioni/Tyson, 8-4

No 2-Blasque/Sales defeated Brown/Bonine, 8-3

No 3-Stamatovic/Lewis won, 8-3

 

Both Viking tennis teams improve to 7-3 on the season.

 

Next up are matches at home against William Woods (Mo.) University, Tuesday at 3 p.m., at Indian Foothills Park.  Both William Woods teams are ranked in the top 10.
