Viking Football Student-Athletes Invited to Pro Day

Posted March 30, 2017

Marshall, Mo. (March 30, 2017)- Three student-athletes from the 2016 Missouri Valley College football team took part in a Pro Day event held at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo., for NFL scouts.  Stephen Thayer (Manteca, Calif.) performed, while Junior Wide Receiver Dorian Stanard (Daytona Beach, Fla.) and Junior Defensive Lineman Kyrton Kilgore (St. Louis, Mo.) took part in a junior showcase event.

Thayer performed in front of representatives from nearly 20 NFL teams at the event, which featured student-athletes from multiple levels of college football.  Earlier this month, Thayer took part in a regional Pro Day, hosted by the New Orleans Saints.  Thayer, labeled as a safety going into the NFL Draft, finished with a 40-yard dash time of 4.45 seconds, and a vertical jump of 35 inches.  Both results would have put Thayer in the top 12 of safeties performing at the NFL Pro Day last month in Indianapolis, Ind.

Thayer finished his career at Missouri Valley by breaking the program’s single-season tackles record (111) and topped the team with 11 total sacks and 21.5 tackles-for-loss.  He was also named the Heart Southern Division Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and was a first team all-division selection.  In addition to the conference honors, Thayer was named to the 2017 AFCA/NAIA All-American Team as a first team selection.

Stanard and Kilgore joined Thayer at the event, and participated in a junior showcase for NFL representatives.  Stanard finished the 2016 season with 1004 all-purpose yards, including 860 receiving yards to lead the team, and five touchdowns.  Kilgore posted 49 total tackles, and was second in the team in sacks (4.5) and tackles-for-loss (8.5).

All three led the 2016 Viking football team to a 9-3 overall record and a berth into the 2016 NAIA Football Championship Series for the eighth time since 2006.
