Two Vikings Earn Weekly Conference Honors from the Heart

Marshall, Mo. (March 27, 2017)-  Two Missouri Valley College student-athletes have been named athletes of the week in their respective sports by the Heart of America Athletic Conference.  Junior Setter Andrea Maggio (Vasto, Italy) was named the Heart Men’s Volleyball Setter of the Week, and Freshman Mariah Farden (Cheyenne, Wyo.) was named the Heart Women’s Golfer of the Week.


Maggio earned his third weekly conference award of the season after helping the Vikings earn the No. 2 seed at the upcoming Heart Postseason Tournament.  Maggio totaled 30 assists in a loss to No. 1 Grand View (Iowa) University, and finished with 20 assists and five digs against No. 2 Missouri Baptist University.  Friday, Maggio helped the Vikings to a win over No. 7 Clarke (Iowa) University in four games with 45 assists and 13 digs.  The men’s volleyball team finished conference play with a 7-3 record, and currently sit at 15-11 on the season.


The Vikings will close out their regular season with a match at No. 5 Ottawa (Kan.) University Wednesday at 7 p.m.


Farden earned her first weekly Heart award after leading the Viking women’s golf team at the Central Baptist (Ark.) College Invitational at the Country Club of Arkansas.  Farden won the tournament after shooting a +22 (166), finishing atop the leader board by five strokes.  She had the low-round of all golfers at the event, with a +10 (82) in the second round.


The Viking golf teams will continue their seasons at the MVC Spring Invite, set for April 3-4 at Indian Foothills Golf in Marshall, Mo.
