Marshall, Mo. (March 23, 2017)- Missouri Valley College men’s basketball student-athlete Senior Brody Gronewold (Carthage, Ill.) has been selected to the 2016-17 NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball All-American Team.  Gronewold was an honorable mention selection.

Gronewold finished the season as the team-leader in points per game (16.7), minutes per game (37.7), free throw percentage (.803) and free throws made (126).  He ranked sixth in the Heart in points per game and fifth in total points (591), fifth in three-point field goals per game (2.5) and ninth in assists (102).  Gronewold’s 45 points in a win over then-No. 24 Grand View (Iowa) University, on Feb. 18, were the most by any player in Heart men’s basketball this season.  The 45 points also tied a program record for single-game points.  Gronewold became the eleventh Viking men’s basketball player to eclipse the 1000-point mark, and finished his career with 1059 total points, which is tenth most in program-history.

Gronewold, a second team all-conference selection this season, ranks in the top 10 in five different career offensive categories.  He also becomes the sixth Viking under Head Coach Chad Lance to earn all-American status.  Gronewold joins former teammate Raviel Burton (2015-16), James Lane (2013-14), Jordan Epps (2012-13), Damon Collins (2006-07) and current assistant coach Ramone Powell (2004-05) as an all-American.

The Viking men’s basketball team finished its 2016-17 with a 15-17 overall record, and advanced to the semifinal round of the 2017 Heart of America Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament.
