Men's Wrestling Ranked No. 12 to End Season

Marshall, Mo. (March 10, 2017)- The Missouri Valley College men’s wrestling team finishes its 2016-17 season ranked No. 12 in the NAIA Wrestling Coaches’ Postseason Top 20 Poll.  The Vikings finished with three all-Americans at the 2017 NAIA Wrestling National Championship last week in Topeka, Kan.


Missouri Valley placed No. 12 at the NAIA Wrestling National Championship, and are ranked No. 12 in the final coaches’ poll.  Junior Andrew Simmons (Palmdale, Calif.) finished fifth at 165 pounds, Junior Tobias Barnes (Romulus, Mich.) placed sixth at 157 pounds and Senior Justin Smith (Hollywood, Fla.) finished sixth at 285 pounds at the National event.  All three became first-time all-Americans.


The Vikings were one of two teams from the Heart of America Athletic Conference ranked in the final coaches’ poll.  Grand View (Iowa) University is ranked No. 1.  Benedictine (Kan.) College, Baker (Kan.) University, William Penn (Iowa) University and Graceland (Iowa) University are all in the “others receiving votes” category.


The Missouri Valley men’s wrestling program has finished in the top 12 Nationally every season since the 1994-95 season.
