Viking Cheer Team in National Championship Field

Marshall, Mo. (February 26, 2017)- The Missouri Valley College cheer team will compete at the 2017 NAIA Cheer and Dance National Championships, after the eight team championship field was announced today by the NAIA.


The Viking cheer team earned an automatic berth into the championship field, after capturing the NAIA Southeast Regional Qualifier championship Saturday in Belleville, Ill. Missouri Valley finished with a final score of 85.99, topping second place Lindenwood (Ill.) University-Belleville, which placed second with a score of 83.89.


Joining Missouri Valley in the championship field is fellow Heart of America Athletic Conference competitor MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) University.  Also in the field is Lindenwood-Belleville.


Missouri Valley last won a National championship at the 2013 NCA/NDA Collegiate National Championships, earning the National title in the small-coed division.  The Viking cheer team also won a National championship in 1999.


The 2017 NAIA Cheer and Dance National Championships take place March 10-11 at the Abe Lemons Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla.
