Viking Cheer Captures Conference Championship

Marshall, Mo. (February 11, 2017)- The Missouri Valley College cheerleading squad took part in the 2017 Heart of America Athletic Conference Spirit Squad Championships today at Central Methodist (Mo.) University.  The Vikings came away with a conference championship in the cheer division.


The Viking cheer team competed against nine other programs.  Missouri Valley finished the event with a team score of 76.75, edging out second place Central Methodist, which scored a 74.92.  Avila (Mo.) University placed third, with a 70.17, followed by MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) University’s score of 68.17.


The conference championship gives the program three event championships this season.  Missouri Valley took first at the Missouri Baptist Invitational and the Sterling (Kan.) College Invitational last month.  This is also the program’s first conference cheer championship since 2014.


Up next for the Viking cheer team is the NAIA Regional Qualifier, set for Feb 24-25 at Lindenwood (Ill.) University-Belleville.
