Marshall, Mo. (February 6, 2017)- The No. 19 Missouri Valley College men’s wrestling team finished its home schedule for the 2016-2017 season Saturday with the Missouri Valley Open, and Freshman Zack Durbin (Arnold, Mo.) was chosen for a weekly conference award following his performance at the event.

Durbin, who is the No. 16 ranked wrestler at 133 pounds, earned the Heart Wrestler of the Week award after his third place performance at the Missouri Valley Open.  Durbin went 3-1 at the event, winning all three of his matches by pin.  Durbin defeated Michael Cuthberston of Benedictine (Kan.) College in a first period (1:15) pin in the quarterfinal.  Durbin lost in the semifinal round, but bounced back to defeat Dalton Good of Baker (Kan.) University in a first period (1:02) pin in the consolation semifinals.  In the third place match, Durbin defeated Cuthbertson again, this time in a second period (4:46) pin.

Durbin is 15-13 on the season following his performance at the Missouri Valley Open.  This is the first weekly award for Durbin in his career at Missouri Valley, and he is the third member of this year’s team to earn a weekly honor from the Heart.  Sophomore Dalton Tipton (Smithville, Mo.) won the Heart and NAIA award on Nov. 14, and Junior Andrew Simmons (Palmdale, Calif.) earned the Heart honor, Dec. 5.

Up next for the Viking men’s wrestling team is a season-finale dual, on the road at NCAA Division II Truman State (Mo.) University.  The dual is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m., in Kirksville, Mo.
