Viking Cheer Takes Sterling Championship

Posted January 27, 2017

Marshall, Mo. (January 27, 2017)- The Missouri Valley College cheerleading squad continued its competition season by taking part in the Sterling (Kan.) College Invitational in Sterling, Kan.  The Vikings captured another team championship, finished with a score more than 10 points better than second place.

The Missouri Valley cheer squad finished its competition with overall score of 76.85 to win the event.  The Vikings finished more than 10 points ahead of second place Bethel (Kan.) College, which scored a 64.77.  Sterling took third, while Tabor (Kan.) College placed fourth.

“The team received high scores from all judges, maxing out running and standing tumbling, jumps and baskets,” said Cheer Head Coach Tori Cox.  “The team had a last-minute stunt and pyramid change before taking off this morning.  Our pyramid wasn’t executed to our best ability and we will work to improve that before conference in two weeks.  The team overcame the pyramid issue and finished the routine strong with their dance.  Judges were impressed and we left with a large lead and another first place title.  We hope to do the same at conference.”

Missouri Valley picked up a championship at the Missouri Baptist Spartan Invitational last week.  Next up for the cheer squad is the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships, Feb. 11, in Fayette, Mo.
