Repertory Dance Ensemble to Present Annual ConcertPosted January 23, 2017
The Missouri Valley College Repertory Dance Ensemble will present its annual dance concert Feb. 2-4 at 7:30 p.m. nightly in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre on the MVC campus. There will be a question and answer session with the dancers and choreographers following the Friday evening performance.
The concert will include modern, contemporary, ballet, hip hop, and dance films and will feature choreography by MVC Associate Professor Janie Morgan, MVC Lecturer Jenna Wurtzberger. Guest artists include Alumni Rebecca Whitsett (2013) and Jessica Shobe-LaRue (2010). Student choreographers are Senior Tea Mortensen, Senior Rosemarie Bennett, and Junior Nikki Spencer.
The Ensemble consists of Seniors Tea Mortensen, Rosemarie Bennett, Terrence Mickens III, Juniors Nikki Spencer, Kassandra Milton, Jordan Galey, Maria Allmon, Sophomores Chayla Stephenson and Rina Miura and Freshman Emily Conner.
Since graduating from Missouri Valley in May of 2013, Guest Artist Rebecca Whitsett has been back in her hometown of Joplin, Missouri teaching at Karen's Dance Studio. She teaches ages 2-18 in a wide variety of classes including creative movement, ballet, pointe, jazz, hip hop, and tap. She is also one of the competition choreographers at KDS. Rebecca is an adjunct instructor of dance at Cottey College and is a member of the Cecchetti Council of America and a member of Dance Masters of America. Through DMA, Rebecca is certified to teach ballet and jazz. She is very grateful for the time she had at Valley and for the impact it has had on her success and honored to be a guest choreographer.
Guest Artist Jessica LaRue marked the first dance major graduate from MVC in May 2010. She went on to coach the dance and cheer teams at Concordia University of Nebraska for one year. In that time, Jessica took the non-competing dance team to the National Championships and placed second in their division. Jessica is currently the general manager for Back in Time Toys in Cole Camp, MO. Jessica is excited to have the opportunity to choreograph on the Repertory dancers again.
