Viking Women's Wrestling Competes in Day 2 of National Duals

Marshall, Mo. (January 6, 2017)- The No. 12 Missouri Valley College women’s wrestling continued competition at the NWCA National Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind., Friday morning.  The Vikings dropped two duals, falling to No. 14 Jamestown (N.D.) University by a 25-22 score and dropping a dual to No. 16 Emmanuel (Ga.) College, 30-16.

 

Vs. No. 14 Jamestown

101 pounds-Missouri Valley left the weight class open.  Jamestown leads, 5-0.

109 pounds-Junior Hilda Garcia (Mount Vernon, Wash.) lost to Haley Hedgecock in a first period pin.  Jamestown leads, 10-0.

116 pounds-No. 5 Senior Christy Powell (Powder Springs, Ga.) defeated Tricia Martin in a 2-0 decision.  Jamestown leads, 10-3

123 pounds-Junior LoriAnn Archuleta (Peralta, N.M.) lost to Amy Fearnside in a 12-0 technical fall.  Jamestown leads, 14-3.

130 pounds-Sophomore Bethany Davis (Roy, Wash.) defeated Josylyn Pachecko in a second period (4:02) pin.  Jamestown leads, 14-8.

136 pounds-Junior Anna Poyner (New Hartford, Iowa) defeated Caitlyn Kaz in a 14-4 technical fall.  Jamestown leads, 15-12.

143 pounds-Missouri Valley left the weight class open.  Jamestown leads, 20-12.

155 pounds-Junior Aideli Martinez (El Paso, Texas) won by forfeit.  Jamestown leads, 20-17.

170 pounds-Junior Yuneris Taveras (Bronx, N.Y.) lost to Myranda Velazquez in a first period pin.  Jamestown leads, 25-17.

191 pounds-No. 8 Junior Alyssa Cantu (Stockton, Calif.) defeated Diana Lopez in a second period (3:29) pin.

Jamestown defeated Missouri Valley, 25-22.

 

Vs. No. 16 Emmanuel

101 pounds-Missouri Valley left the weight class open.  Emmanuel leads leads, 5-0.

109 pounds-Garcia lost to Maria Vidales in a first period pin.  Emmanuel leads, 10-0.

116 pounds-Powell defeated Victoria Gutierrez in an 11-0 technical fall.  Emmanuel leads, 10-4.

123 pounds-No. 7 Junior Alicia Reyes (Blue Springs, Mo.) defeated Ahlana Williams in a first period (1:24) pin.  Emmanuel leads, 10-9.

130 pounds-Davis lost to Charline Hagemaster in a second period pin.  Emmanuel leads, 15-9.

136 pounds-Poyner defeated Jazlyn Jackson in an 11-0 technical fall.  Emmanuel leads, 15-13.

143 pounds-Missouri Valley left the weight class open.  Emmanuel leads, 20-13.

155 pounds-Martinez lost to Mia Leon in a 10-0 technical fall.  Emmanuel leads, 24-13

170 pounds-Taveras defeated Ophelia Lara in an 8-7 decision.  Emmanuel leads, 26-16

191 pounds-Cantu lost to Kayla Wade in a first period pin.

Emmanuel defeated Missouri Valley, 30-16.

 

The Vikings finished with an 0-3 record at the National Duals.  Missouri Valley fell to No. 12 Life (Ga.) University, 31-17, in the opening round Friday.  Leading the team individual was Powell who won all three of her matchups, including a win by pin and another by technical fall.

 

The Missouri Valley women’s wrestling team will next be in action Jan. 15, at the Ottawa (Kan.) University Open.
