Marshall, Mo. (December 6, 2016)- The Missouri Valley College women’s soccer team has placed one of its student-athletes on the 2016 NAIA Women’s Soccer All-America Team.  Senior Midfielder Andrea Garcia (Toledo, Spain) was chosen as an honorable mention.

Garcia led the team this season in total points (22) and assists (10) and finished fourth on the team in goals (6).  She also finished as the Heart’s leader in assists per match (.53) and third in the conference in total assists.  Her best game of the season came against Avila (Mo.) University on Oct. 12, when she scored two goals and added three assists to finish with a career-high seven total points.

In addition to the all-American selection, Garcia finishes her career at Missouri Valley as a three-time selection to the all-conference first team (2013, 2014 and 2016) and was the 2013 Offensive Player of the Year.    Garcia becomes the fourth student-athlete under Head Coach Drew Hawkins to earn all-American status, joining Maria del Carmen Blasco and Inma Martinez, both in 2015, and Yesica Hernandez, in 2012.  All were honorable mention selections.

“This is a great accomplishment for Andrea, and everyone in the program is extremely proud of her,” said Women’s Soccer Head Coach Drew Hawkins.  “Andrea is very deserving of this honor, having put in four years of hard work and dedication to make herself and the program better.”

The Viking women’s soccer team finished its season with an 11-6-2 overall record, and a 7-3-2 record in the Heart.
