Marshall, Mo. (December 6, 2016)- Missouri Valley College women’s volleyball student-athlete Senior Setter Maja Krstonosic (Kikinda, Serbia) has been chosen to the honorable mention list on the 2016 AVCA NAIA All-America Team.  Krstonosic becomes the first player in the women’s volleyball program to receive all-American consideration since 1993.

Krstonosic adds to her honors from this season.  She becames the program’s first-ever selection to the AVCA Midwest All-Region First Team Monday, and was a first team all-conference selection.  She earned the honors after setting the program’s record for most assists in a single-season, with 1319.  During the regular season, Krstonosic led the conference, and was No. 11 in the NAIA, in total assists and was second in the Heart in assists per set (10.7).  Her highest single-match assist total was 57 in a contest with Morningside (Iowa) College on Oct. 8.  Krstonosic also ranked eighth in the conference in total service aces (39).

Krstonosic becomes the first member of the women’s volleyball program to earn all-American honors in 23 years.  Machozi Todd received all-American honors following the 1993 season.

“I am extremely happy and proud of Maja,” said Women’s Volleyball Head Coach Brett Holt.  “It is very difficult to come into a program as a setter in your first season and have the impact that Maja did.  She was one of the many reasons our program had the success it did this season.  This caps off a senior year in which she broke the program’s single-season assist record, was first team all-conference, first team all-region and now an all-American.  This is a great accomplishment for Maja personally, and also for our program.  It is a great day to be a Viking.”

The Viking finished the season with a 29-9 record and a 9-4 mark in Heart matches.  Both records are season-bests during Holt’s tenure.  The team also advanced to the Heart Postseason Tournament semifinals.
