Marshall, Mo. (December 5, 2016)- Missouri Valley College women’s volleyball team student-athletes Senior Outside Hitter Samantha Voils (Nokomis, Ill.) has been named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Volleyball Team.  Voils was chosen based on her achievements in the classroom and on the court this season.

Voils received a first team selection after finishing the 2016 season tenth in the Heart, with a hitting percentage of .232.  She also placed No. 17 in the conference in total kills (289) and finished with a season-high 18 kills in the match with Park on Aug. 27.  In the classroom, Voils carries a 4.0 GPA while majoring in finance.  Voils was eligible for the all-American honor after being selected to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team last month.

Voils becomes the first student-athlete in program-history selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team.  She completes her career as a two-time all-conference selection, named an honorable mention to the 2015 AVCA Midwest All-Region Team, awarded as a 2016 NAIA Scholar Athlete and was selected as the NAIA Attacker of the Week on Sept. 15, 2015.

“This is a well-deserved award and a great way to cap off Sam’ senior year,” said Women’s Volleyball Head Coach Brett Holt.  “The ability to maintain a 4.0 GPA in a double-major while also being successful on the court shows Sam’s great work ethic.  There is no doubt in my mind that she will be very successful in her field.”

The Viking finished the season with a 29-9 record and a 9-4 mark in Heart matches.  Both records are season-bests during Holt’s tenure.  The team also advanced to the Heart Postseason Tournament semifinals.
