Viking Men's Cross Country Finishes Season Ranked No. 11

Marshall, Mo. (November 24, 2016)- The Missouri Valley College men’s cross country team finishes its best season in program-history ranked No. 11 in the final 2016 NAIA Men’s Cross Country Coaches’ Poll.


The Viking men’s cross country team finished its 2016 season by placing No. 11 in the NAIA Cross Country National Championships, Saturday at North Farm Cross Country Course in Elsah, Iowa.  The No. 11 finish is the best in program-history, and Junior Ulysses Orozco (Lake Forest, Calif.) became the program’s first all-American.  Orozco finished the 8k championship race in a time of 25:01, to finish at No. 18.  Two other runners also finished in the top 100 at the event.  Junior Victor Reveles (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished at No. 71 and Junior Edwin Ortiz Lopez (Santa Ana, Calif.) placed No. 94 overall.


In addition to the success at the National championship race, the men’s cross country team also captured the program’s third Heart of America Athletic Conference championship, and first since the 2013 season.  


Missouri Valley is the only men’s cross country team from the Heart of America Athletic Conference to finish the season ranked in the coaches’ poll.
