Viking Women's Wrestling Set to Host MVC Open

Marshall, Mo. (November 18, 2016)- The Missouri Valley College women’s wrestling program is set to host the MVC Open Saturday, believed to be the largest collegiate women’s wrestling event in the country.


This weekend’s open will feature 25 collegiate women’s wrestling programs and over a dozen wrestling clubs from across the country.  In all, between 250 and 300 women’s wrestlers will compete in the event.


Expected to compete this weekend is Helen Moroulis, who recently won a gold medal in the 53kg weight class at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.


“There will be a lot of great wrestlers competing Saturday at the Burns Athletic Complex,” said Women’s Wrestling Coach Carl Murphree.  “Not only will the tournament feature some of the best college wrestlers in the country, but also an Olympic gold medalist.  It’s a great opportunity to come and see some truly great wrestling.”


The MVC Open begins at 9 a.m., Saturday at the Burns Athletic Complex on the Missouri Valley College campus.  Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and free for Missouri Valley faculty, staff and students.
