Viking Men's Soccer Puts Four on All-Conference Team

Marshall, Mo. (November 1, 2016)- Four members of the Missouri Valley College men’s soccer program have been chosen to the 2016 Heart of America Athletic Conference All-Conference team.  Two were selected to the second team, with another pair selected to the all-conference third team.

 

The two Vikings chosen to the all-conference second team were Senior Defender Luke Russell (Dromoe, Northern Ireland) and Junior Midfielder Slaven Baskalo (Novi Sad, Serbia).  Russell, who was also an all-conference second team selection last season, finished the season as the defensive leader for the team, helping the squad to seven shutouts, while scoring a pair of goals.  Baskalo was the team-leader in total points (13), was tied for the team lead in assists (3) and was second on the team in goals scored (5). 

 

Chosen to the all-conference third team were Senior Defender Marc Heaman (Amble, England) and Senior Forward Rafael Alcaraz (Palma de Mallorca, Spain).  Heaman helped the Viking defense earn seven shutouts and scored one goal with two assists.  Alcaraz was third on the team in total points (11), third in goals scored (4) and tied for the team lead in assists (3).

 

The Vikings finished the regular season with a conference record of 7-3-2, and an overall record of 11-5-2.

 

Missouri Valley will be the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Heart Postseason Tournament, and will travel to No. 4 seed Central Methodist (Mo.) University in a quarterfinal match Saturday at 2 p.m., in Fayette, Mo.  Earlier this season, Central Methodist (Mo.) University defeated Missouri Valley, 3-1, in a match played at Gregg-Mitchell Field.
