Four Women's Soccer Players Named to All-Conference Team

Marshall, Mo. (November 1, 2016)- The Missouri Valley College women’s soccer team has put four of its student-athletes on the 2016 Heart of America Athletic Conference All-Conference Team, including a pair of first team selections.


Chosen to the all-conference first team were Senior Midfielder Andrea Garcia (Toledo, Spain) and Senior Defender Belen Lafuente (Madrid, Spain).  Garcia is second on the team in total points (20), third in goals scored (6) and the team-leader in total assists (8).  Her best game came against Avila (Mo.) University on Oct. 12, when she scored two goals and added three assists to finish with a career-high seven total points.  Garcia finishes as a three-time selection to the all-conference first team (2013, 2014 and 2016) and was the 2013 Offensive Player of the Year.  Lafuente also earned her first all-conference selection, chosen to the first team.  She finished the season starting in all 17 matches, scoring one goal and adding one assist. 


Two other members of the women’s soccer team were chosen to the all-conference third team.  Sophomore Midfielder Julia Amador (San Cristobal, Spain) finished as the team-leader in total points (21), goals scored (8) and was third on the team in assists (5).  She recorded hat-tricks in matches against Grand View (Iowa) University on Sept. 17 and Evangel (Mo.) University on Sept. 27.  Also chosen to the all-conference third team was Junior Forward Melissa Urena (Fremont, Calif.).  Urena tied for third on the team in goals scored (6), was second in assists (6) and third in total points (18).


The Viking women’s soccer team finished fourth in the Heart with a conference record of 7-3-2.  The team’s overall record was 10-5-2, the fifth-straight season of achieving at least 10 wins.


Friday, the No. 4 seed women’s soccer team hosts No. 5 seed Central Methodist (Mo.) University, in the quarterfinal round of the 2016 Heart Women’s Soccer Postseason Tournament.  The match will start at 7 p.m., at Gregg-Mitchell Field.  The two teams played to a 0-0 tie in Marshall, Mo., on Sept. 24.
