Marshall, Mo. (October 12, 2016)- The Missouri Valley College men’s cross country team made a big jump this week in the latest NAIA Men’s Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.  The Vikings moved up 15 spots, and come in at No. 10.

The No. 10 ranking is the highest all-time for the men’s cross country program, and comes after a performance at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open in Hays, Kan.  The Vikings placed No. 11 as a team, competing against mostly NCAA Division II programs, and finishing ahead of No. 13-ranked University of St. Mary (Kan.), as the only two NAIA programs competing.  Junior Ulysses Orozco (Lake Forest, Calif.) led the men’s team, placing at No. 23 overall, and the top NAIA competitor.

The 15-spot jump was the biggest for any team in this week’s poll.  The No. 10 ranking tops the previous best for the program, which was a No. 17 ranking in the 2014 preseason poll.

The Viking cross country teams will next compete at the Mid-Classic at Southwestern (Kan.) College in Winfield, Kan., Oct. 22.
