Graphic Design Student to Host Senior Art Show

Posted April 22, 2016

MVC Senior Michelle Cano, a senior in the Missouri Valley College visual art department, will host a solo art exhibition entitled La Ventana.  The show will be on display from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., May 2-6 in Baity Hall’s Vern Nestor Gallery.

La Ventana is an advertising campaign complete with logo and marketing posters for a fictional airline company called Floreana Airways.  The exhibition will present illustrations from all over the world that promote fantasy destinations.  The artwork brings together commerce and imagery using incredible clouds in abstract shapes and silhouettes.

“Traveling around the world to some of the most amazing places really made an impact on my artwork and my way of thinking,” Cano said.  “I love the vibrant colors of the sky and enhanced them to add dimension to the journey.”

Michelle Cano was born in Quito, Ecuador. Before coming to Missouri Valley College, Michelle went to Raffles Design Institute in Shanghai, China where she started pursuing her BFA degree in graphic design. Continuing her education, she decided to transfer and attend Missouri Valley College after she received an academic scholarship. Michelle will graduate in December 2016 with a BFA in graphic design.

An opening reception for the show will be held on May 2 from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Vern Nester Gallery. The reception is free and open to the public.
