Victoria Cox Named New Cheer Coach

Posted April 20, 2016

Marshall, Mo. (April 19, 2016)- The Missouri Valley College Athletic Department announces that Victoria Cox will be the new head coach of the Viking cheer squad.

Cox comes to Missouri Valley after spending the past two years leading the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) cheer program.   She was named the program’s first ever competitive cheer coach, and was also the first STUNT coach in the state of Arkansas.  During her time at the University of the Ozarks, Cox increased participation in the program, took the program to its first NCA College National appearance, placing seventh in the small coed Intermediate II division, and entered the program in STUNT competitions, which included winning the first collegiate STUNT contest in Arkansas history.

Cox has coached competitive gymnastics and cheer squads since 2007.  She was a member of the University of Northern Iowa cheer team and served as a member of the UCA National squad.  She earned her degree in accounting from Iowa State University in 2014.  Prior to her college cheer experience, Cox was active in USA Gymnastics, focusing on beam, bars and floor.  She transitioned into USTA competitive power tumbling, double mini trampoline and Euro trampoline.

“I am elated to be the next head coach at Missouri Valley College,” said Cox.  “I am excited to begin the recruiting process and to show the College what their cheer team is truly capable of achieving.  I plan to compete in both coed and all-girl teams at the National level in the future, as well as bringing STUNT to campus.  I am so grateful for this opportunity and I am more than ready to begin.”

"We are excited about the addition of Coach Cox to the MVC family and, with the recent addition of cheer and dance as a varsity sport within the NAIA, we are confident that we have a coach that can help us be competitive not only within the Heart of America Conference but also at the National level," said Mike Machholz, associate athletic director.  "We are equally excited about the possibility of bringing STUNT to campus to help us grow our spirit squad."
