The contest recognizes student media produced during 2014; contest entries are judged by professionals from  throughout the Midwest. Student work was produced for MVC’s student newspaper, The Delta, and the student online photojournalism magazine titled Zoom.

Missouri Valley’s mass communication students brought home the following awards:

  • Website Home Page: first place, The Delta website, www.mvcdelta.com.

  • Special Section or Supplement: first place, Zoom, an online photojournalism magazine.

  • Sports Reporting: first place, MVC student Nathan Gerdts won for a story about football play-offs.

  • Investigating Reporting: second place, MVC student Ryan Canfield won for his story about how student concerns helped postpone a new campus housing fee.

  • New Photography: honorable mention, MVC student Gabriel Costas Gomes dos Santos won for an action photo during Freshmen Welcome Weekend.

“The Delta website and our photojournalism magazine, Zoom, have won an MCMA award every year since they began,” said David Roberts, associate professor of mass communication.
