Top Academic Students Honored at Scholar Banquet

Dr. Parris Watts, Missouri Valley College vice president of academic affairs, honored 2015 academic scholars at the annual Scholar Banquet on April 9.

Scholars are chosen by MVC faculty members as individuals exemplifying outstanding scholarly and personal characteristics. To be eligible for the award, the student must have a minimum 3.3 cumulative grade point average, be a December or May graduate of the current academic year and may only be honored for one major.

The 2015 MVC Scholars were:

Sidney Robertson of Springfield, Mo., accounting; Heloise Cillie a South African native from Dimmitt, Texas, athletic training; Benjamin Miller of Nassau, Bahamas, anthropology; Kelly Cordray of Marshall, Mo., art; Twyla Reid of Albion, Ill., biology; Sarah Niemeier of Loehne, Germany, business administration; Tracy Bommer of Marshall, Mo., computer information systems; Elizabeth Luna of Anaheim, Calif., criminal justice; Bernardo Ferriz-Diaz of Cadiz, Spain, economics; Brock Hughes of Gilford, Ontario, Canada, elementary education; Jessica Hobbs of Wamego, Kan., exercise science; Conner Swift of Marshall, Mo., history; Lucia Martin Garcia-Calvo of Toledo, Spain, management; Alexander Missey of Owensville, Mo., mass communication; Cecylee Lewis of Columbia, Mo., mathematics; Henry Yeagle of Marshall, Mo., middle school education; Kelsey Mumm of Hudson, Iowa, nonprofit agency management; Wesley Ng of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, physical education; Sabrina Bartley of Camdenton, Mo., psychology; Ashton Clark of Farmington, Mo., public relations; Stefany Prindle of Maryville, Mo., sociology; Heather Hill of Versailles, Mo., theatre.

Additionally, one student was awarded the Ed Leslie Lamp of Knowledge Award for an essay entitled “What Missouri Valley College Means to Me.” The winning entry was written by Sidney Robertson. Robertson was presented a framed certificate, a framed copy of the winning essay, the Lamp of Knowledge trophy, the Lamp of Knowledge medallion and a $100 stipend.
