Sarah Snodgrass, a junior athletic training student from Hemphill, Texas, was recently selected to serve as the Executive Director of the NATA District 5 Athletic Training Student Leadership Council (DVATSLC) for the 2015-2016 school year.

Sarah has been serving as the liaison between the DVATSLC and the National Athletic Training Students’ Committee (NATSC) since June 2014 and will continue with those duties in addition to those of the executive director. Through her role as the NATSC liaison Sarah has participated in the Missouri Athletic Trainers’ Association Capitol Hill Day in Jefferson City, Mo., the iLead Athletic Training Student Leadership Conference in Dallas, and has assisted in the development of the student education sessions at district and national athletic training conferences.

“Sarah has been representing the district’s athletic training students and the athletic training profession extremely well this past year while on the NATSC,” stated Dr. Karla Bruntzel, athletic training program director. “Sarah is passionate about the athletic training profession and has personally helped educate the public about the need for athletic trainers to be further incorporated into the health care delivery system.”

The primary roles and responsibilities of the DVATSLC Executive Director are to serve as a liaison on the NATSC, the DVATSLC and the NATA District 5 Board of Directors. Sarah will inform the district athletic training students about current issues in the athletic training profession and to encourage and assist the district athletic training students in generating interest in their future profession.

“I will be spending a lot of time on the phone participating in conference calls and assisting in developing information that will be disseminated to many athletic trainers and athletic training students across the Midwest and nationally,” elaborated Sarah.  “I was excited to be selected to undertake these additional duties. I have plenty of work ahead, but I know I will make a difference.”

Sarah is the first Missouri Valley College athletic training student to hold this particular DVATSLC position.
