Viking Cheer Squad Qualifies for Nationals

Marshall, Mo. (March 2, 2015)- The Missouri Valley College cheer squad completed at the NAIA North Regional competition at Doane (Neb.) College over the weekend.  The squad placed fourth in the region, but received an at-large bid to the National competition.

 

At regionals, the Viking cheer squad finished with a team score of 85.67, finishing fourth overall.  The regional champion was Midland (Neb.) University which finished with a score of 90.87.

 

In addition to the fourth place finish, one Viking earned All-American status.  Freshman Michael Williams (Stockton, Mo.) becomes just the second Viking male cheerleader in program history to earn NAIA All-American honors.

 

Following the regional competition, the Viking cheer squad received an at-large bid into the NAIA Competitive Cheer and Dance Invitational in Fremont, Neb., March 13-14.

 

"I am very proud of this team, our regional performance was an improvement from our conference performance,” said Head Cheer Coach Jamal Rankins.  "This team has consistently trended upwards in terms of execution from competition to competition, and it will be a good opportunity and reward to showcase at the National Invitational among the 12 best NAIA cheer programs in the entire country."

 

The Vikings will go into the National competition seeded No. 8 out of the 12 squads.
