Marshall, Mo. (August 13, 2014)- A former Missouri Valley College men’s volleyball student-athlete represented the United States in an International tournament in Scotland this summer, helping the US team to a championship.

Former Viking Will McCracken (Goleta, Calif.) represented the country on the United States of America Athletes International (USAAI) team, playing in the Scottish Open Tournament in June.  McCracken helped the USAAI team to a 4-0 record in the tournament, winning the championship match in three sets.

“It was a great experience to play overseas and represent the country,” said McCracken.  “It was fun to play, but exploring Scotland and getting to exposed to the country’s culture was also fun.”

McCracken played four seasons on the men’s volleyball team at Missouri Valley at the Setter position.  His senior season in 2014 was his best statistically, finishing with 1088 total assists, second in the Nation, 82 kills and 182 digs in 133 games played helping the Vikings to a program-record 22 wins and an appearance in the NAIA South Tournament Championship Game.  McCracken finished his career with 2702 assists, 479 digs, 213 kills and 99 service aces.  He also earned second team all-conference honors in 2013 and 2014 and he earned academic all-conference honors from 2012-2014.

“Will was a great player and leader on the team during his time at Missouri Valley,” said Director of Volleyball Operations Brett Holt.  “I’m very happy that Will got this opportunity to represent the country and for having so much success playing overseas.”

The Scottish Open Tournament was played in Perth, Scotland and included an outdoor volleyball tournament the USAAI team participated in.

“I was nominated to the team by an opposing coach that we played against at Missouri Valley,” said McCracken.  “Outside of the games we visited different castles, the William Wallace monument and got to watch the women’s volleyball National teams from Scotland and Ireland play.”
